Too many conferences?

We are being inundated with a glut of Christian conferences and conventions.

For young people, for men, for women, for musicians, for particular ethnic/cultural groups, for preachers, for leaders, for popular author/speaker groupies…(I can’t wait for the one specifically for men approaching middle-age who run and hob nob with celebrities as a hobby, not that that’s anyone you might know…)

Well, at least that’s what I hear as a conference organiser/event planner myself.

It’s hard to know what to make of the comment/complaint.

Is it that the person feels guilty that they can’t attend all of them but would really like to?

Is it that the person feels like they’ve been made to feel guilty by others for not being able to attend every good thing that’s going on?

Or is it just a symptom of already busy lives, with so many options for the personal annual Christian conference budget, that ever more alternatives would drive said person to the point of the crippling paralysis of indecision?

May I answer in the parlance of the young?

Chill.

Lose the guilt. We’re not Catholics.

And then thank God for the initiative and vision of so many keen Christian brothers and sisters willing to sacrifice their time, energy, and sometimes sanity, to plan, prepare, and run an event designed to help you grow in your Christian life!

And then reflect on the (comparative) dearth of quality Christian input in the rest of the country and the world, and the spiritual hunger of people there who would give their right arm for 1/10th of what we’ve got going on here in Sydney.

And then carefully prayerfully sift through your conference options for the year, decide, and enjoy!

No more whining and whinging, OK?

Gotta go.
Another convention to organise…
